I wanted to share some changes I'll be making to 8IFY over the next few weeks. I've been absolutely ecstatic with the traffic, the response and the outreach of the 8iFY readers and listeners - however, I need to make some changes to the 8iFY format in order to maintain my sanity, which is fragile at times :).
Each weekend I spend 10 hours coming up with 5 blog posts covering ways to generate money online using technology. Then, on Sunday I would record and produce the 8iFY podcast, ta...

Building a blogging platform is incredibly easy thanks to WordPress 3.0's Multi-Site feature. I'm using this feature to power my corporate podcasting platform (work in progress).
I wanted to be able to offer my clients a bunch of unique themes to choose from, but wasn't happy with any of the "free" themes available in the WordPress Theme Directory. After digging around I stumbled on Elegant Themes, a subscription based model for 55+ amazing looking WordPress themes.
For $39 a year, y...

eBooks might seem passé, but I assure you they are a great way to get more sign ups for your mailing list, to drive traffic to affiliate links or drive more people to your website.
I used my eBook Whore IT Up, as a freebie if people signup for the 8iFY Mailing list. While this book isn't long (only 30 pages or so), it took me about 120 hours to write, edit, design and bundle. Since I value my time at $200 an hour, Whore IT Up ultimately cost me around $24,000 to produce, and while it h...

In my never ending quest to generate cash from this blog, I decided to build a marketplace where individuals and companies could actively promote their goods and services for a small fee. So far the results are looking very promising. In addition to allowing people to place ads in the marketplace, I also will give away free ads to help promote friends, or in exchange for discounted or free products. I also include a free spot in the marketplace for all of the 8IFY Podcast sponsors.
Here are t...

MarsEdit is an amazing Mac App that takes your WordPress writing and publishing, out of the browser. It also works with Tumblr, Hosted Wordpress.com and a bunch of other publishing platforms.
Why would you want to write posts outside of WordPress' interface? Well here are just a few of the reasons I use it exclusively:
Copy and Paste Images directly in to posts and the images are automatically uploaded.
This is great for taking partial screenshots using the Command + Shift + 4 techn...

What's an Evil Automated Zombie Blog? Glad you asked! It's when you leverage RSS feeds to automatically create blog posts from other blogs and news sources. These sites are good for generating traffic from Google, and can run without you every having to create a single real blog post. After a short period of time, your blog will amass a large number of posts around a given topic; the very thing Google bots like to gobble up.
WARNING: These types of mindless zombie websites are considered evil...

When people see that a blog post has a lot of comments, they naturally assume that the post is valuable - regardless of it's true value. If a blog post has 0 comments, then what does that say? It might be pretty obvious that comments are a great way to help your readers become more engaged with your blog, but what might not be as obvious is how to make that happen. In this post I will share some of the tactics I am employing in hopes to increase 8ify.com's comments; I hope that you will c...

Do you know how to design a WordPress Themes, or know someone that does? This technique is a great way to generate anywhere between $500 and $4,500 a pop without having to deal with too much client BS.
There are a lot of businesses that use WordPress for their corporate sites. Most of them either are using a premium wordpress theme, or a custom built one. These businesses are ripe for the picking, and can be easily sold if presented with a design before they have to buy.
Step 1. Find a...

Many people think that because WordPress is released under the GPL License, that you can't make money from WordPress Plugins - this is actually not true at all. The only limitation you have with WordPress Plugins is that you can't distribute WordPress with your plugin, which you would never actually do anyways. So you're free to create a plugin under any Software License you wish, pretty cool huh? Now, for the record, you're plugin isn't allowed to be submitted to WordPress' plugin directory...
