Building iPhone and Android apps with Javascript!

December 20, 2009 in Gadgets, Tech, Usability by Brandon Corbin

Last month I found Titanium, a powerfully simple platform that helps you build native iPhone and Adroid apps (mac, linux and windows too)  with only HTML, CSS and Javascript – the designers coding trifecta.

Titanium has helped fulfill a fantasy of mine dating back to 2007 when I got my first iPhone. The freedom to build my own personal portable web enabled software. Unfortunately, I found Objective-CCocoa” drastically different from anything I have done before – and thus never  found the passion to learn it. So my personal iPhone apps dream died, until last month. Thanks guys!

Titanium is FREE and runs on Mac, Windows and Linux – (I’m pretty sure you will need a Mac to build iPhone apps).

The End Of The CrunchPad – it would have been divine!

November 30, 2009 in Gadgets, Grapevine, Video by Brandon Corbin

The Dead CrunchPadThe team at TechCrunch and the boys at Fusion Garage were working on a pretty killer Tablet called the CrunchPad.

Unfortunately, TechCrunch just released news that the deal is dead in the water and stated that We will almost certainly be filing multiple lawsuits against Fusion Garage, and possibly Chandra and his shareholders as individuals, shortly. The legal system will work it all out over time.”

In true TechCrunch fashion, CEO Michael Arrington brazenly reveals all of the details in this post.

Droid Not Ready For Prime Time?

November 30, 2009 in Gadgets by Brandon Corbin

droidStewart Alsop at Alsop Louie Partners ultimately says that the Motorola Droid is not ready for prime time.

From the post “The Motorola Droid is truly terrible, in part because it has such promise (and has been amazingly well reviewed — I worry I’m missing something). Ironically, most of the blame for the cruddiness of the phone really should be laid at Google’s feet, not Motorola’s.”

Mulberry Toys – powered by Magento

November 17, 2009 in Gadgets by Brandon Corbin

Mulberry Toys just launched their new online store thats powered by Magento! Mulberry focuses on selling toys that not only entertain a child, but also educate and empower them.

Visit their site at http://mulberrytoys.com or follow them on Twitter at http://twitter.com/mulberrytoys

We understand the importance of that short period of time known as childhood.

That’s why we’re particular about the toys we choose to include in our collection.

In order to make the cut, a toy must not only entertain a child, it must also educate or empower them. There’s one exception to this rule…we will also include items that are truly embraceable…after all, a good hug is worth more than just about any toy in the world.

While ShopSavvy, the bar code scanning and information retrieval application launched for Antroid about a year ago (as GoCart) – it wasn’t until today that they release one for the iPhone. Simply put this app is kick ass, as the video above will show.

ShopSavvy was created by Big In Japan and works by using your phones camera to grab any barcode and returns pricing, where you can find it locally, reviews and more.

You can get the app from the App Store here.

Sony Opens Up with the XPERIA Android phone.

November 17, 2009 in Gadgets, Grapevine, Tech, Video by Brandon Corbin

Soy Xperia

Sony has finally gotten back in to the game with the XPERIA X10, Sonys first phone to leverage Android, Googles mobile operating system. Available the first half of 2010, the XPERIA could prove to the world that Sony is finally embracing the idea of an open platform that can be customized by its users.

Like most Android phones, the XPERIA will come with Sony signature application -  Timescape -  that help manage all of your communications with another person regardless of the source  - Twitter, Facebook, Google Contacts, Text Messages etc.

The XPERIA will connect with various App Stores like PlayNow and the Android Market.

From the Video below, you can see how it compares in size with comparable phones like the HTC – all in all, the phones hardware looks pretty good, and the phones touch screen seems to be very responsive and fluid.  The interface on the phone below, does have some quarks that make me feel like its 1995 again – but all in all Sony did an excellent job making the Android platform feel like Sony.

Bert Nordberg, President, Sony Ericsson said, “The XPERIA™ X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience. The reaction from our global operator partners to the XPERIA X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010.”

Samsung Announces New Android-Powered Galaxy Spica (i5700)

November 16, 2009 in Gadgets, Tech by Brandon Corbin

Attention Battlestar Galactica Android OS fans, Samsung has just taken the wraps off its newest Android-powered smartphone, the Galaxy Spica. By the sound of that name, it appears the Cylons have taken control of Samsung’s mobile division. The newest soldier in the ever-growing ‘droid army features a 800MHz processor (just like its Moment sibling) and is the first Android smartphone to include native DivX support (so you won’t have to convert your downloaded collection of BSG to watch on the go!). Along with the improved codec support, the Galaxy Spica (GS) also touts other improved multimedia-centric features like the inclusion of DNSe 2.0 for “better sound quality” and 3.5 mm jack for use with your favorite headphones.
